<title>Taking the first step: Building community through running and faith</title>

<description><![CDATA[<p><strong>In this blog, Lucy, Sport and Faith Coach in the Forest of Dean, reflects on how the journey from 0-5k became more than just running&mdash;creating space for connection, courage, and personal growth through faith and community.</strong></p>
<p><span data-contrast="auto">"In February 2024, I joined the Sportily team, and my first session was a 0-5k group taking place throughout Lent. Rather than giving something up, this was a chance to take up something positive and impactful&nbsp;during Lent. After 9 weeks of meeting as a group, it culminated in running 5k at the Lydney Park Run.&nbsp;</span><span data-ccp-props="{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}">&nbsp;</span></p>
<p><span data-contrast="auto">We&rsquo;ve run (no pun intended!) two 0-5k groups in Newnham, and it&rsquo;s been wonderful to get to know a variety of people and see them begin their running journey; all because of taking that first step and signing up to come and join the 0-5k. Starting something new can be scary, and joining a group where you don&rsquo;t know anyone&nbsp;can feel like a challenge. However, the groups are very inclusive and supportive, and it&rsquo;s a great way to get to know others. <p><span data-contrast="auto">From our last 0-5k session, the group decided that they&rsquo;d like to try netball. Some of the group hadn&rsquo;t played since they were in school, but it was all about &lsquo;giving it a go&rsquo;. From that, Newnham Netballers was formed! After taking a break for the winter, we&rsquo;re restarting at the end of August, and anyone over the age of 16 is very welcome to join us! <p><span data-contrast="auto">In Secondary School, I always loved cross-country running, and whilst most of my friends hated the bleep test, I loved it! For me, it wasn&rsquo;t so much the competition against others (we had two very speedy county runners in our year group that I was never going to beat!), but it was the competition against myself. Could I better my time? When it felt like I had nothing left to push on with, could I keep going instead of giving up?</span><span data-ccp-props="{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}">&nbsp;</span><span data-ccp-props="{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}">&nbsp;</span></p>
<p><span data-contrast="auto">Running is a wonderful metaphor for life! In the Bible, Paul uses the analogy of a runner in a race; he looks at the determination and discipline needed to win a physical race, as well as the perseverance needed in our spiritual lives.</span> <span data-contrast="auto">He reminds us&nbsp;not to get off track,&nbsp;not to look back, and to persevere! Sometimes in life, it can feel like you&rsquo;re running a marathon &ndash; backwards and through treacle, but there is always hope and a reason to press on!&nbsp;&nbsp;</span><span data-ccp-props="{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}">&nbsp;</span></p>
<p><span data-contrast="auto">As a Christian, I find that getting out for a run on my own has always been a chance to pause from the busyness of life, to enjoy the beauty of God&rsquo;s creation and to spend time praying. When running with a friend, or with a group, it&rsquo;s a chance to listen, chat and &lsquo;talk life&rsquo;, and be part of a wonderful, encouraging community with amazing wellbeing and mental health benefits.</span><span data-ccp-props="{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}">&nbsp;</span></p>

<title>Breaking barriers: Women in sport and the power of self-belief</title>

<description><![CDATA[<p><strong>As Sport and Faith Leader Jo has explored in previous posts about the barriers to women&rsquo;s participation in sport and the importance of fostering self-esteem, this blog continues the conversation by highlighting how sport can play a key role in breaking negative cycles and building confidence for women of all ages.</strong></p>

<p>As I&rsquo;m currently training to become a Pilates instructor in a world where age matters, it&rsquo;s no mean feat. As a mature member of the Sportily team, my motivation to improve my own fitness aligns with my determination to see others get fitter, improve their posture, breathe better, and live life to the full, just like Manette. However, I sometimes catch myself thinking&hellip; &lsquo;I&rsquo;m not good enough&rsquo;, &lsquo;I&rsquo;m not thin enough&rsquo;, or &lsquo;I&rsquo;m too old&rsquo;. It&rsquo;s then that I realise I&rsquo;m trapped in a negative self-esteem loop and need to break free!</p>
<p>It seems to be becoming increasingly difficult for women to have high self-esteem and to love themselves for who they are in a world full of expectations, &lsquo;thinspiration&rsquo;, and unprecedented pressure on women to be perfect &mdash; especially through social media. Although there have been many advertising campaigns celebrating voluptuous figures, such as F&amp;F and Dove, I wonder how that translates into women&rsquo;s body positivity in real life and whether it really builds our self-esteem.</p>
<p>The NHS has researched self-esteem and shares the following definition and accompanying information: "<em>Self-esteem is the opinion we have of ourselves, and low self-esteem often begins in childhood. Our teachers, friends, siblings, parents, and even the media send us positive and negative messages about ourselves."</em></p>
<p>They state that, <em>"When we have healthy self-esteem, we tend to feel positive about ourselves and&nbsp;life in general. It makes us more able to deal with life&rsquo;s ups and downs. However, when our self-esteem is low, we tend to see ourselves and our lives in a more negative and critical light. We also feel less able to take on the challenges that life throws at us."</em></p>
<p>Perhaps you&rsquo;ve found it difficult to live up to other people&rsquo;s expectations of you, or even your own? This can also have a negative effect on your self-esteem. It seems that some people are just more prone to negative thinking, while others set impossibly high standards for themselves and want everything to be perfect! Do you see a glass half full or half empty?</p>
<p>Research suggests that if you have low self-esteem or confidence, you may hide yourself away from social situations, stop trying new things, and avoid things you find challenging.</p>
<p>Maybe there are a few steps that you could take to help build your own self-esteem or that of a young person or loved one. <p>There is a lot of advice in the media offering to help improve your self-esteem, but I personally find that the Bible provides words of encouragement for me in Philippians 4:6-7 NIV, which says, <em>&ldquo;Do not be anxious about anything.&rdquo;</em> Friends, family, and I sometimes catch my negative words, and my thoughts then become actions and my face downcast. But when I cling onto God&rsquo;s words, it breaks the cycle. How do you build positive self-esteem in yourself and others?</p>

<title>Why do you love rugby?</title>

<description><![CDATA[<p><span data-ccp-props="{}"><strong>As the 2025 Men&rsquo;s Six Nations (M6N) draws to a close, Rich, Co-CEO of Sportily and leader of the Sport and Faith team of coaches, has been asked a question many times: &lsquo;Rich &ndash; why do you love rugby so much?&rsquo; </strong></span></p>
<p><em>"A seemingly simple question but perhaps not so simple to answer. I was fortunate to play rugby for 30 consecutive seasons, enjoy coaching now and, as my family will testify, am also a fan watching as many matches as I can from many different leagues, cups and tournaments around the world. Of course, the Six Nations is one of the best with it's history, the rivalry and the high quality (mostly!) rugby on display.&nbsp;&nbsp;</em></p>
<p><em>What I have noticed is that many people who ask questions then go and quickly answer them for you. Having asked me the question around rugby the answers that people give on my behalf are normally:&nbsp;&nbsp;</em></p>
<p><em>&lsquo;<strong>I bet you love the physicality.</strong>&rsquo; I do, and I do miss this now I cannot play. For my being physical and active are massively linked to my physical and mental health and general happiness. While rugby is a physical game it is, in fact, an invasion and evasion sport and what I love most of all about rugby is the creativity and co-creation that takes places on the pitch with so many moving parts and possibilities. As well as being physical beings I also believe we are creative beings made by the ultimate Creator. It is important I find space and time to be physical, to be active and to creative. I think this is true for all of us although it does not need to be through rugby.&nbsp;&nbsp;</em></p>
<p><em><strong>&lsquo;I bet you love winning.&rsquo;</strong> I do love competition, but this is not the same as winning nor winning at all costs. For the youth teams I have coached I would much rather we played a competitive match and lost than an easy win. There are times we lost a match, but we were coaching for a longer-term win of player development or player retention. I believe that we are given gifts and talents by God, and we are called to do the very best with them. This takes effort and energy and drive, and this is similar to my competitive spirit. Being part of the team that established and leads Sportily is one example of where this competitive spirit has been utilised for the good of many others. I have been known to be over competitive, and it is in these moments I try to remember that, for me, I am playing/coaching for an audience of one no matter whether I win, lose or draw. For me, that audience is Jesus &ndash; creator of the universe.&nbsp;&nbsp;</em></p>
<p><em><strong>&lsquo;I bet you love the beer.&rsquo;</strong> I do like a beer (alcoholic and non-alcoholic varieties are available) but it is always about the people. I have lived in Bristol, Southampton, Beverley, Liverpool and now Gloucestershire and in all these places I could turn up to &lsquo;my&rsquo; rugby club and find some people to chat and spend time with. People I care about and who care about me.&nbsp; I believe we are created to be part of families, tribes, teams and not isolated people. As work and life gets busy, as I get drawn into my next book or crime drama or even doom scrolling, I need to remember that I need to get out and be with people. I love that this creation of communities runs through all that we do here at Sportily.&nbsp;&nbsp;</em></p>
<p><em><strong>&lsquo;I bet you love that it gives you something to do</strong>.&rsquo; This question is always around people wanting to know about where my value and purpose comes from. Rugby gives me many things, as can be seen above, and it is even a place in where I find myself able to worship God, but my value is not in how well my team played or how I played or coached. My purpose is not in nor of rugby - my fullness of life comes only through God. I will try to remember this as I watch England play and as I stand watching the team I currently coach no matter how well they are playing."</em></p>

<title>Did you know that there are fewer girls participating in Sport?</title>

<description><![CDATA[<h4><strong>We caught up with Sport and Faith Leader, Jo, who's also our Female Participation lead, to learn more about the challenges girls face in sports and how her work aims to encourage their continued involvement.</strong></h4>
<p><span data-contrast="none">"In my last blog (which you can read <a href="https://sportily.org.uk/8185/Why-is-womens-participation-in-sport-lower-than-mens">here</a>),&nbsp;</span>I discussed some of my personal experiences growing up in the world of gymnastics. As I move to my next blog, I thought it would be good to share some of the reasons why girls drop out of sport and what we can do to support them in getting involved.</p>
<p>Here are some reasons discovered by the Women&rsquo;s Sports Foundation after 25 years of research:</p>
<h4><strong>Why girls drop out:</strong></h4>
<p><strong>Lack of access:</strong></p>
<p>Girls have 1.3 million fewer opportunities to play secondary school sports than boys. Limited physical education in schools and fewer sports opportunities at both secondary school and college mean girls often have to look elsewhere&mdash;which may not exist or may cost more. There is also often a lack of adequate playing facilities near their homes, making it more difficult for girls to engage in sports.</p>
<p><strong>What we're doing to change this:</strong>&nbsp;</p>
<p>At Sportily, we offer a wide variety of inclusive opportunities, such as breakfast clubs, after-school clubs, Leadership Academies, Hangouts, and more&mdash;most of which are open to all, as we&rsquo;re committed to ensuring girls feel fully welcome and included.</p>

<p>Through sports, girls learn important life skills such as teamwork, leadership, and confidence. Friendships and memories are made, alongside the physical benefits of staying active. Many of our Sportily clubs are free or have a small charge. <h4><strong>Why they drop out:</strong></h4>
<p><strong>Decreased quality of experience:</strong></p>
<p>As girls grow up, the quality of their sports experience may decline. The facilities might not be as good as those for boys, and playing times may not be optimal. In some communities, quality, trained coaches are lacking, our coaches may focus more on boys&rsquo; programmes, which have more funding.&nbsp;<span data-olk-copy-source="MessageBody">Equipment and sports kits aren&rsquo;t always provided and can be expensive which can diminish girls' enjoyment and growth in the sport. In short, sports just aren&rsquo;t &ldquo;fun&rdquo; anymore.</span></p>
<p><strong>What we're doing to change this:</strong>&nbsp;</p>
<p>At Sportily, we have trained sports coaches who use engaging games from the Boing Curriculum. We believe in helping each young person progress through tailored coaching and feedback that highlights strengths and areas for growth, enabling them to reach their full potential. We're committed to ensuring that girls have the same access to quality equipment, coaches, and resources as boys. Our coaches incorporate life skills and, at times, faith-based discussions that encourage young people to engage in meaningful conversations, building social and enquiry skills.</p>
<h4><strong>Why they drop out:</strong></h4>
<p><strong>Lack of positive role models:</strong></p>
<p>Today&rsquo;s girls are constantly shown images focused on external beauty, rather than strong female athletic role models. For some, fitting into this mould seems more important than standing out. Peer pressure is challenging at any age, and without strong encouragement to participate in sports, girls may drop out altogether.</p>
<p><strong>What we're doing to change this:</strong>&nbsp;</p>
<p>Sportily aims to inspire women to participate in sports, not only through our amazing female coaches but also by inviting successful and accomplished athletes to our events. This encourages girls to get more involved in sports and join a Sportily club&mdash;whether it&rsquo;s netball, basketball, or one of our unique sports like Tchoukball. <title>It&#039;s time for the Paralympics and we&#039;re feeling inspired</title>

<description><![CDATA[<p><strong>The Paralympics games in Paris sees a whole host of incredible athletes performing in their chosen disciplines, from well-known events athletics and swimming to the lesser seen boccia and goalball, there are events for all spectators.&nbsp;</strong></p>
<p>One of the Cycling Athletes Kadeena Cox (MBE) will be going into the games as one of Team GB top medal prospects, in an interview with Charlotte Rush in Ash magazine she spoke about how the task of prepping for the Paralympics is an enormous task, but by breaking it down into smaller goals to achieve allows her to keep on track.</p>
<p>As a two time Gold medal winner in Rio and Tokyo there is a huge pressure that Kadenna will podium in Paris, with the added expectation that podium finish will be a gold. Speaking on handling that pressure Kadenna said:</p>
<p>&lsquo;I take strength from the team I have around me and my faith. I have a great support network. When things don&rsquo;t go well, we evaluate and adapt. And of course, I know God has always got things in hand. Even if things don&rsquo;t go the way I want them to right now, they will happen eventually, just as they&rsquo;re meant to.&rsquo;&nbsp;</p>
<p>Sage advice from the two time Paralympic velodrome champion, maybe this is the secret to her success being relaxed about the outcomes, surrounding herself with the right people and trusting God. Is there something that we all could learn from this?</p>

<title>We chat Paris Olympics 2024 highlights</title>

<description><![CDATA[<p><strong>That's a wrap on another exhilarating Olympic season, and Paris 2024 has truly outdone itself, providing a stunning backdrop for unforgettable performances, awe-inspiring athletic feats, and a celebration of global unity that will be remembered for years to come.</strong></p>
<p class="x_MsoNormal">Did you enjoy the swimming at the Paris Olympics?</p>
<p class="x_MsoNormal">Did you cheer on Adam Peaty [GBR]? Were you amazed by the dominance of Leon Marchand [FRA]? Did you know that Summer Mcintosh [CAN], who won 3 gold and 1 silver medals is only 17 years old and this was her second Olympic games?&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>
<p class="x_MsoNormal">&nbsp;</p>
<p class="x_MsoNormal"><strong>Do you know the story of Eric Moussambani Malonga who swam in the Syndey Olympics in 2000 for his country Equatorial Guinea?</strong></p>
<p class="x_MsoNormal">The International Olympic Committee were looking to support the development of sport and athletes in the majority world who had been underrepresented at the games. To do this they arranged for a &lsquo;wild card&rsquo; entry system whereby those athletes who did not meet the minimum qualification requirements could still take part.</p>
<p class="x_MsoNormal">Eric heard the call out on national radio for people who would be interested in representing their country by swimming in the Olympic games.</p>
<p class="x_MsoNormal">The only problem was, Eric couldn&rsquo;t swim.</p>
<p class="x_MsoNormal">Still, he showed up at the trials, only to discover he was the only applicant!</p>
<p class="x_MsoNormal">Eric was going to the Olympics!</p>
<p class="x_MsoNormal">He had 8 months to learn to swim and to train, however there was no 50m pool in his country. So the only way he could practice was to use the 12m pool at a hotel, which he was allowed to do for 1 hour, 3 times a week.</p>
<p class="x_MsoNormal">Before arriving at the Olympics, he had never seen a 50m pool, yet here he was, needing to swim two whole lengths &ndash; the 100m Freestyle.</p>
<p class="x_MsoNormal">To make matters worse, he didn&rsquo;t even have the right kit, so the South African Coach lent him some trunks to replace his boardshorts.</p>
<p class="x_MsoNormal">He lined up for his heat and his two competitors were disqualified for diving in before the gun had gone off. To win his heat, all Eric needed to do, was successfully swim two lengths of the pool.</p>
<p class="x_MsoNormal">Is there a more appropriate use of the phrase &lsquo;out of your depth&rsquo;?&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>
<p class="x_MsoNormal">Eric completed the swim in 1:52:72 (<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7P8U4g_srRU%20&nbsp;">watch it here</a>) &ndash; more than a minute slower than the world record and &lsquo;Eric the Eel&rsquo; was born!</p>
<p class="x_MsoNormal">In Paris 2024, a new world record of 46:40 was set by Pan Zhanle [CHI].</p>
<p class="x_MsoNormal">Sadly, despite winning his heat Eric was not able to progress in the competition, but after the Syndey games, Eric actually continued swimming and he became a swimming icon in Equatorial Guinea&nbsp;</p>
<p class="x_MsoNormal">Four years later set a PB of 52:18, a time which would have won him the gold medal at the 1950 games.</p>
<p class="x_MsoNormal">In 2012 he became the National Swimming Coach and has championed swimming in Equatorial Guinea.&nbsp;</p>

<title>Why we&#039;ve been obsessed with the Paris 2024 Olympics</title>

<description><![CDATA[<p><strong>This Olympic season there's been so much excitement, so many unexpected results, new sports and great stories of strength and determination, that Chris (our COO), like most of us, has&nbsp;found himself unable to look away from the TV.&nbsp;</strong></p>
<p><span data-contrast="auto">"I don&rsquo;t know about you, but I&rsquo;ve been a bit obsessed with the Olympics.</span><span data-ccp-props="{">&nbsp;</span></p>
<p><span data-contrast="auto">Sports I've never watched before, have had me glued to the screen and the athlete's stories have been so inspiring.</span><span data-ccp-props="{">&nbsp;</span></p>
<p><span data-contrast="auto">I&rsquo;ve loved discovering the mayhem of kayak cross and been amazed by the strength and agility of the gymnasts. The rowing, the track athletics, the velodrome, the sailing and windsurfing, the bmx, the tennis, the badminton and volleyball, they&rsquo;ve all captured and captivated me.</span><span data-ccp-props="{">&nbsp;</span></p>
<p><span data-contrast="auto">I rewatched numerous times the moment Pidcock took gold in the final moments of the mountain bike race by sweeping past the French athlete and I cheered out loud, sat on the edge of my seat, watching Alex Yee take the Triathlon gold in the final few hundred meters.&nbsp;</span><span data-ccp-props="{">&nbsp;</span></p>
<p><span data-contrast="auto">Poolside, I&rsquo;ve loved the way the crowd have cheered for the impressive Leon Marchand and been blown away by Summer Macintosh who won her 3</span><span data-contrast="auto">rd</span><span data-contrast="auto"> gold medal and set an Olympic record time at her second Olympics, aged only 17!</span><span data-ccp-props="{">&nbsp;</span></p>
<p><span data-contrast="auto">The ancient Greeks, who started the Olympic games in Olympus had no tolerance for losers, the winner took all of the glory and there was no second or third place! In fact, losing could actually result in punishments being handed out (you can listen to a podcast about the ancient Olympics on BBC sounds </span><a href="https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/p0jds868"><span data-contrast="none">here</span></a><span data-contrast="auto">).</span><span data-ccp-props="{">&nbsp;</span></p>
<p><span data-contrast="auto">Thankfully, at Sportily, we are most excited when someone gives it a go and discovers the joy of moving more. Whilst it&rsquo;s wonderful to be able to celebrate winning, whether it&rsquo;s an Olympic gold medallist, or a personal achievement like a PB, there's a huge amount of joy we can all experience simply by getting physical in a way that&rsquo;s right for you.</span>&nbsp;</p>

<p><span data-contrast="auto">In Ancient Greek society, achieving a harmonious balance between body and mind was an important aspect of an individual's personal development. The gymnasiums where they trained therefore hosted wrestling matches as well as music rehearsals and provided weight lifting training as easily as philosophy lectures.&nbsp;</span><span data-ccp-props="{">&nbsp;</span></p>
<p><span data-contrast="auto">At Sportily we also recognise the importance of developing both physical and mental health, that&rsquo;s why our &lsquo;Play sports, talk life&rsquo; philosophy weaves its way into every activity we do. Yes, we have fun together playing sports and being active, but we also know its important to talk and create space for that.&nbsp;</span><span data-ccp-props="{">&nbsp;</span></p>

<title>Where is God in the Olympics?</title>

<description><![CDATA[<p><strong>Rich, our Head of Sport and Faith, shares his thoughts on this Olympic season.</strong></p>
<p><span data-contrast="auto">"For me, the joy of the Olympics is being able to watch 10,500 athletes from 206 countries compete in 329 events across 32 different sports. This is then followed by the Paralympics, featuring 4,400 athletes from 206 countries compete in 549 events across 22 different sports.</span><span data-ccp-props="{">&nbsp;</span></p>
<p><span data-contrast="auto">It creates a huge sense of inspiration for all of us to get active. It encourages us to have fun, and to give all sorts of sports a try this summer and into the coming months.</span><span data-ccp-props="{">&nbsp;</span></p>
<p><span data-contrast="auto">I don&rsquo;t think there is any better sporting competition in the world which inspires others to enjoy the breadth of sport and movement. The joy of moving, of teammates, of competition.</span><span data-ccp-props="{">&nbsp;</span></p>
<p><span data-contrast="auto">The Olympics and Paralympics are held in Paris this year. Exactly a century ago did Paris host the Olympics of 1924, where Eric Liddell won bronze in the 200-metre final, and gold in the 400-metre final. I cannot help but pause on his most famous quote:</span><span data-ccp-props="{">&nbsp;</span></p>
<p><span data-contrast="auto">&lsquo;I believe God made me for a purpose - but He also made me fast. And when I run, I feel His pleasure'.</span><span data-ccp-props="{">&nbsp;</span></p>
<p><span data-contrast="auto">There was a joy in listening to Team GB swimmer </span><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LKc3vaEt08w"><span data-contrast="none">Adam Peaty being interviewed after his silver medal performance</span></a><span data-contrast="auto"> on Sunday, day 2 of the Games. It was also inspiring to listen to swimmer Mark Foster, five-time Olympian and six-time World Champion, talk about Adam's journey. He spoke about witnessing changes in Adam over the last few years as he found his purpose, and that for Adam, it is more than just winning; it is about faith and his family.</span><span data-ccp-props="{">&nbsp;</span></p>
<p><span data-contrast="auto">As I listened to this, I was reminded of Eric Liddell. Eric described this sense of encountering God as he ran. This is a huge joy and a challenge for me, and as I think about Sportily and our desire to invite others to encounter God, I think about the ways that we have maybe forgotten, through our bodies and through movement.</span><span data-ccp-props="{">&nbsp;</span></p>
<p><span data-contrast="auto">We have an opportunity to help others find their purpose. Sport and movement can be the best place for this to take place."</span><span data-ccp-props="{">&nbsp;</span></p>

<title>The Olympics and Paralympics are here: Paris 2024</title>

<description><![CDATA[<p><strong>Sport and Faith Coach Christo welomes us into the Olympic season with some reflection.</strong></p>
<p>"Friday the 26th of July is a big day in millions of people's diaries.</p>
<p>Why?</p>
<p>It marks the start of the Olympic and Paralympics Games Paris 2024.</p>
<p>Around 15,000 athletes will be part of the opening ceremony with hopes high of winning that gold for themselves and their country. After so many sacrifices, hours on hours of hard work and training, successes, and disappointments, those 15,000 Olympic athletes will compete in 329 events in 32 sports to see who the best of the best is. The Paralympics will see 4,000 athletes competing in 22 sports with 549 medals up for grabs.&nbsp;</p>
<p>When I think about the Olympics and participating in sports, I think about my own achievements. Well, I've never been on a level to qualify for the Olympics, but I did achieve a few amazing successes in running and bodybuilding. But what I realized over the years is that I'm not a champion because I achieved gold or silver medals but because I never gave up. And if I did give up, I found a way to lift my head and try again.</p>
<p>This is why I love sports and working with people to do sports and any physical activity. It's not about coming first, but about understanding that we are all winners and that we can achieve so much more in our lives than we realize. It is about small steps, about trying something new, about learning, about being part of something, yes, it's about finding that champion inside of you.</p>

<title>Why is women’s participation in sport lower than men’s?</title>

<description><![CDATA[<p><strong>Female participation in sport is still significantly lower than male for a variety of reasons. Sport and Faith Leader Jo is our Female Participation Lead and is focused on getting girls involved in and enjoying sport.&nbsp;</strong></p>
<p><strong>Keep reading to find hear about her&nbsp;</strong><strong>experiences growing up.&nbsp;</strong></p>
<p><span data-contrast="none">"As a child, I spent many precious hours training to be a gymnast. Two evenings of gymnastics and conditioning exercises followed by two evenings of ballet, not to mention Saturday mornings and Sunday afternoons spent practicing routines and tumbles! Looking back, I felt fortunate to spend 10 years of my life, from the age of 5, actively engaged in sport; often competing in local and County competitions. I measured my own success by the number of trophies, gold, silver and bronze medals I had achieved. I also felt the disappointment of not winning, leading to a feeling of failure; where there seemed little comfort in family and friends saying that it was okay if I had done my best.&nbsp;</span><span data-ccp-props="{">&nbsp;</span></p>

<p><span data-contrast="none">Over 30 years on, I still remember that my body image was a huge contributing factor to my mental health and wellbeing as I approached my teen years.&nbsp;Clingy, figure hugging leotards sometimes led me to agonise over my body shape and compare myself with other girls; leading me into a negative thought process that maybe &lsquo;I was too curvy&rsquo; or &lsquo;too athletic&rsquo; to be good enough. Coupled with the competitiveness of the amateur gymnastics world where being good at your sport can often lead to jealousy and bullying-therefore, despite my passion for gymnastics life could sometimes be tough and a little isolating!</span><span data-ccp-props="{">&nbsp;</span></p>
<p><span data-contrast="none">Self-image and self-esteem seemed to be everything to me back then, therefore, I wondered how much things had really changed today. This led me to research the reasons why women&rsquo;s participation in sport is lower than men as there are 313,600 fewer women than men who are regularly active according to </span><a href="https://www.sportengland.org/research-and-data/research/gender?section=research"><em><span data-contrast="none">Gender | Sport England</span></em></a><span data-contrast="none">&rsquo;s statistics.</span><span data-ccp-props="{">&nbsp;</span></p>
<p><span data-contrast="none">There have been many polls undertaken to identify why girls participation is lower. </span><em><span data-contrast="none">The Women&rsquo;s Sport Foundation </span></em><span data-contrast="none">identified that young girls are &lsquo;conditioned at an early age to shy away from sport due to the fact that they can be perceived as being unfeminine, or are afraid of failure or being teased&rsquo;. This aligns with my lived experience during my youth.&nbsp;&nbsp;</span><span data-ccp-props="{">&nbsp;</span></p>
<p><span data-contrast="none">I suppose the questions to consider next are&hellip; what does this look like in the community where I work? Are young girls accessing after school sports clubs and if not why not? Early indications with my local secondary school seem to indicate that female participation is low and it is difficult to attract young females to engage in after school sports.</span><span data-ccp-props="{">&nbsp;</span></p>
<p><span data-contrast="none">Therefore, what can I do to have a positive impact on fostering a love of sport in those young girls who may already feel that sport is not for them?</span><span data-ccp-props="{">&nbsp;</span></p>

<title>Why you should come along to our EPIC 5-day summer residential</title>

<description><![CDATA[<p><strong>Sport and Faith Leader Tim is the go-to guy for our summer residential and wanted to share what all the fuss is about...</strong></p>
<p><span data-contrast="auto">"Well, summer 2024 is finally here and as the smell of freshly cut grass and the lure of BBQ&rsquo;s and ice cream fills us with a sense of happiness and joy, there's also something else round the corner which brings a sense of excitement and anticipation (not Euro 2024, but FYI #thisyearitsfinallycominghome!!) it is of course our Sportily summer 5-day residential at the TRAC centre just outside Newent.</span><span data-ccp-props="{}">&nbsp;</span></p>
<p><span data-contrast="auto">Our TRAC residential has been a longstanding flagship event of the summer holidays and is a time which over the years have provided young people from across the Sportily network with the chance to gather, connect, eat, and explore the Christian faith together.&nbsp; This year will be no exception as we have a potential 70 young people signed up to share 5 days of raft building, climbing, archery, zip-wire, art, drama, BBQ, sport, amazing guest speakers, interactive workshops and much much more.</span><span data-ccp-props="{}">&nbsp;</span></p>
<p><span data-contrast="auto">The TRAC residential is more than just your average summer camp, the beautiful setting and sense of Christian hospitality allows TRAC to offer a safe space for young people to play sports, talk life, explore the Christian faith and make memories that will potentially be with them for life.&nbsp; Over the last decade of running our residential, we've seen young people try new activities, make new friends, smash through doors they didn't even realise they could open, and for some, explore the Christian faith and experience Jesus for the first time in their lives.</span><span data-ccp-props="{}">&nbsp;</span></p>
<p><span data-contrast="auto">Our theme this year is "Ignite the Light," and we'll be unpacking and exploring how different areas of life offer the young people the chance to find light, bringing them peace, positive well-being, mental health, and joy, as well as exploring how the Christian faith is a light which can shine brighter than any other light and a light which the darkness can never put out.</span><span data-ccp-props="{}">&nbsp;</span></p>
<p><span data-contrast="auto">We always have a good mixture of Christian and non-Christian young people attend the residential and this year is no different. I always come away amazed by how God moves and works during the week in the mountain top moments and the smallest of whispers.</span><span data-ccp-props="{}">&nbsp;</span></p>

Her dedication to the sport mirrors the passion and commitment seen in many women's sports, where record-breaking, inspirational athletes often balance full-time jobs alongside their athletic pursuits. </strong></p>

<p>"Friday and Saturday nights mean fast-paced, nail-biting matches in the UK&rsquo;s Netball Super League between 10 dynamic and talented teams. I love settling down with a cup of tea after a long day at work to enjoy these athletes showcasing their skills on the court. Despite their impressive performances, many of these players have come straight from long days of balancing training and their careers.</p>
<p>While some fortunate players receive sponsorships or are part of the England Roses Pathway, most juggle full-time jobs or studying with their extensive training, conditioning, and match commitments. Despite England's success in reaching the final of the 2023 Netball World Cup, netball is still only considered a professional sport in Australia and New Zealand. This is why players like Fran Williams and Helen Housby have moved overseas to focus on netball full-time.</p>
<p>This situation raises an important question: why isn&rsquo;t netball in England taking its rightful place as a fully supported and funded professional sport? England Netball is actively working towards this goal with programs such as Walking Netball, NetballHer, and See Us Now, which support various communities and promote netball across the country. These initiatives include NSL players discussing their paths to semi-professional netball, their hopes for the future, body image, mental health, and the challenges they face balancing their jobs with the increasing publicity of being in the NSL.</p>
<p>This year, the BBC and SkySports began broadcasting two out of five matches each week, following the success of the World Cup. This is a brilliant step forward for promoting netball in the UK. However, compared to the number of League 2 football matches shown, there is still much work to be done. Netball might not yet have the same number of fans or the long history of sports like football and rugby, but the players demonstrate the same determination and grit in their training, travel, gameplay, and discipline. The key difference lies in the lack of secure facilities, funding, and time.</p>
<p>Netball being recognized as a professional sport would benefit not only the current professionals but also those growing up with the sport. It would offer young players a viable career option and not just a hobby for Friday nights. This recognition is also crucial for aspiring coaches and umpires.</p>
<p>As a player, umpire, and recent coach, I have seen firsthand how netball brings people together, supports teammates through tough times, and boosts confidence. Netball is not just a sport you played in secondary school and vaguely remember; it's a physical, tactical, and strong game that challenges you to grow, supported by a vibrant community of players, coaches, umpires, and sideline supporters. It truly deserves to be recognized as a professional sport."&nbsp;</p>

<title>Sportily takes on Couch to 5km</title>

We checked in with him to find out more about why he enjoys it.</strong></p>
<p><span data-contrast="auto">There is a beauty with running that, I think, is unlike any sport. It's raw and natural, but individual to the athlete and can be interpreted as one sees fit. There are many people I know who can run 20 miles at the drop of a hat, others who would only think of covering that distance in a car. Like anything in life, everyone starts as a beginner, and no one gets good by accident.&nbsp;</span><span data-ccp-props="{">&nbsp;</span></p>
<p><span data-contrast="auto">The original Couch To 5km (C25km) was set up in 1996 but people have been learning to run long before then. It follows a training plan that works on the basis of progressive overload; incrementally increasing the demand/force over a period of time which your body adapts to. The same idea works with lifting weights or holding your breath. As you begin to run, your body will be put under new stresses and over time it will adapt by getting stronger and can tolerate more stress. This is how marathon runners build up to consistently running 100 miles a week, it takes months!&nbsp;</span><span data-ccp-props="{">&nbsp;</span></p>
<p><span data-contrast="auto">The great thing about C25km is that everyone is in the same boat (or starts on the same couch). It's surrounded by community that's built by overcoming challenges together and having an understanding of what the person next to you is going through. If you do C25km in a group, you'll start off as strangers but finish week 10 as friends.&nbsp;</span><span data-ccp-props="{">&nbsp;</span></p>
<p><span data-contrast="auto">While starting the group in January and running in the dark with very low temperatures may sound like a bad idea, the feeling of sitting down in the warm pub with a hot chocolate in your hand makes it all worth it. At Sportily we #playsportstalklife; and we put the same amount of effort into both of these. We see having a conversation about your day as just as important as going for a run.&nbsp;</span><span data-ccp-props="{">&nbsp;</span></p>
<p><span data-contrast="auto">So, here&rsquo;s the sign you were looking for; to go out and find a local running group or grab some friends and embark on this challenge together. When you look back on this in 5 years&rsquo; time, you won&rsquo;t remember how far or how fast you could run, but you will remember how running as part of a community made you feel.</span><span data-ccp-props="{">&nbsp;</span></p>

<title>We&#039;re inspired by the Women&#039;s World Cup</title>

<description><![CDATA[<p><span data-contrast="auto">We're super excited for the Women&rsquo;s World Cup that&rsquo;s taking place this Summer, with England&rsquo;s first game against Haiti on Saturday 22</span><span data-contrast="auto">nd </span><span data-contrast="auto">July.&nbsp;</span><span data-ccp-props="{">&nbsp;</span></p>
<p><span data-contrast="auto">After such a strong performance by the England Women&rsquo;s team in the Euros last year, bagging the win, we know it's going to be great to watch the Lionesses.&nbsp;</span></p>
<p><span data-contrast="auto">Although their 30-game winning streak was broken by the Australians earlier this year, this makes for an interesting tournament &ndash; and perhaps with a few surprises along the way!&nbsp;</span><span data-ccp-props="{">&nbsp;</span></p>
<p><span data-contrast="auto">For us it&rsquo;s so </span>inspiring<span data-contrast="auto"> to have female football players as </span>positive role models, <span data-contrast="auto">and so important for young people to have someone who they can&nbsp;</span>relate to<span data-contrast="auto">, and that encourages their aspirations.&nbsp;</span></p>
<p>Seeing the positive attitudes of people like Leah Williamson and Beth Mead, who aren't part of the squad due to injury, and Nikita Parris, who didn't get picked for the team, has been motivational for our young people who can't always participate in our activities but still want to come along and do as much as they can.&nbsp;</p>
<p>In the last 12 months,&nbsp;48% of our participations were female, and we've found that the rise in popularity of women's sports has given young girls a new group of inspiring women to look up to.</p>
<p><span data-contrast="auto">Whether you&rsquo;re a sports lover or not, international tournaments like this really rally communities and unite people. </span></p>
<p><span data-contrast="auto">Football is a beautiful game, no matter whether it&rsquo;s your first time kicking a football or whether you&rsquo;re a retired Women&rsquo;s Super League legend &ndash; it teaches us to win and lose graciously, it teaches determination and discipline, there&rsquo;s nothing else quite like it!&nbsp;</span></p>
<p>Nelson Mandela <span data-contrast="auto">captured this perfectly when he said &lsquo;</span><em><span data-contrast="none">Sport has the power to change the world. It has the power to inspire. It has the power to unite people in a way that little else does. <title>Sportily&#039;s thoughts on the Tour de France</title>

<description><![CDATA[<p><strong>The Tour de France is the most prestigious and gruelling cycling event in the world. 2023 is its 110th</strong><span data-contrast="auto"><strong> year, with the first week already showing an exhilarating display of athletic prowess, physical endurance and mental fortitude.</strong> </span></p>
<p><span data-contrast="auto">The whole event lasts 3 weeks and sees riders from 22 different teams competing over 19 stages, all seeking to come away with a rider in the coveted yellow jersey.</span><span data-ccp-props="{">&nbsp;</span></p>
<p><span data-contrast="auto">The 2023 edition of the Tour de France showcased a meticulously crafted route, covering approximately 3,500 kilometres across diverse terrains. From the picturesque coastal roads to the towering mountain climbs, riders face a true test of skill and determination, with their bodies having to endure the demands of riding as fast as they can, for as long as they can. The route features iconic stages, including individual time trials, punishing mountain stages, and exciting sprints, captivating both riders and spectators alike.</span><span data-ccp-props="{">&nbsp;</span></p>
<p><span data-contrast="auto">The Tour de France 2023 attracted a competitive lineup of professional cyclists from around the globe. Reigning champion, Jonas Vingegaard, sought to defend his title against fierce competition, including the likes of Tadej Pogačar, Ben O'Connor, and Egan Bernal. Intense rivalries and tactical battles emerged as the race unfolded, making each stage a thrilling spectacle.&nbsp;</span><span data-ccp-props="{">&nbsp;</span></p>
<p><span data-contrast="auto">Outside of fitness, the teams will all have different game plans in place to deal with the varying weather, mechanical issues, injuries, recovery times and their opponent&rsquo;s tactics; all of which would have been meticulously planned and thought through by the team managers. Tactics have already proven to be an issue with Brit Mark Cavendish, who rides for Astana Qazaqstan Team, going the wrong way at a roundabout in stage 4.&nbsp;</span><span data-ccp-props="{">&nbsp;</span></p>
<p><span data-contrast="auto">As easy as it looks on the TV, just getting to the start line of the TDF is an achievement, yet from there it only gets harder. The average person could not comprehend the ascents these athletes have to race up, let alone the speeds being averaged. In 2015, Rohan Dennis averaged just under 25mph to win Stage 1 of the TDF on a time trial stage. Earlier on in 2015, he had already broken the 1 hour time trial world record, which was later broken 4 times that year, with two of the records coming from British riders, Alex Dowsett and Bradley Wiggins.&nbsp;</span><span data-ccp-props="{">&nbsp;</span></p>
<p><span data-contrast="auto">There are so many characteristics and values we at Sportily can take away from the Tour de France riders; their determination and commitment to succeed in the most awful conditions, under high levels of fatigue being one of them. </span></p>
<p><span data-contrast="auto">Instead of flying out to the Alps, our locations have been practising perseverance and understanding what it means to keep giving our best, even when we are tired. This has fitted in nicely with the Sportily Sports Day events that we are running in nearly 20 schools by the holidays.&nbsp;</span><span data-ccp-props="{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}">&nbsp;</span></p>

<title>Bushcraft, what is it?</title>

<description><![CDATA[<p><strong>Bushcraft is an activity that&rsquo;s a little different from everything else we do here at Sportily.&nbsp;</strong></p>
<p>Sport and Faith Trainee Will is here to talk to us about what it involves.</p>
<p>"It&rsquo;s unique, and that&rsquo;s part of what I enjoy about it. It takes us out of our usual environment &ndash; whether that&rsquo;s home, school, or holiday club &ndash; and out into the woods, which lends a whole different atmosphere to a session. It&rsquo;s an opportunity to utilize the nature that&rsquo;s all around us, although of course you have to be careful to be sustainable &ndash; something that bushcraft prioritises."</p>
<p>If you wanted to try Bushcraft at home, it&rsquo;s actually not as difficult as you might think!</p>
<p>"You need a space to do it in, but that can be as simple as a clear space at the bottom of the garden, a clearing in some trees near your house, anything like that.</p>
<p>There, you can have a look around and find some fallen wood &ndash; which is the best way because it means you don&rsquo;t damage nature!</p>
<p>A great way to start is by building a shelter or den out of logs and using leaves to cover it up &ndash; whilst you might get a little cold, you could even spend the night in one of those (I spent a weekend in one once, and it was great fun!).</p>
<p>At Sportily, the most common Bushcraft activity we run is Shelter Building.</p>
<p>In the Forest of Dean, we took a group out and built three different shelters, all for different animals &ndash; they need shelters just as much as us!</p>
<p>We built them out of fallen wood, rope, and a sheet &ndash; and they all held up! The young people all had a great time getting out into nature, and so did we.</p>
<p>If you&rsquo;re interested in nature or just fancy a change, why not give it a try?"</p>
<p>We don't currently have any scheduled bushcraft sessions coming up so make sure you keep an eye out for when we have more.</p>

<title>It&#039;s the season for shooting hoops</title>

<description><![CDATA[<p>It's NBA season across the pond but we don't let the distance stop us from being inspired by basketball's biggest tournament of the year.</p>
<p>We caught up with Luke and Ydson - two of our Sport and Faith Coaches to hear their thoughts and how they're using it to inspire their sessions. &nbsp;</p>
<p>Luke: &lsquo;&rsquo;Hey everyone, if you&rsquo;re a basketball fan, you&rsquo;ve come to the right place!</p>
<p>Me and my colleague Ydson love basketball a lot, and when I say a lot, I mean we really really love basketball.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>
<p>Ydson: You can say that again bro. I absolutely agree.&nbsp;Luke, what&rsquo;s your favourite NBA team again?</p>
<p>L: Definitely the Goldenstate Warriors man, they've been doing so well this season and have made it all the way to the NBA Playoffs.&nbsp;I&rsquo;m sure this year they can win the whole playoffs. We have the best 3 pt shooter in the NBA, Steph Curry, who brings his A-game, every game, and basically never misses. He scored 30 pts last game against the Sacramento Kings, contributing to a great playoff win.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>
<p>It's not just him but the whole team is great, 'cus they give it their all and are working so hard to get that W (win, for those who aren't up-to-date with the youth slang!).&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>
<p>Y: I like your passion for Goldenstate, but I&rsquo;d have to disagree with you there. Miami Heat is going for that championship, and we'll get the W in the end.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Bro, look at Jimmy Butler, just last Wednesday he had his highest-scoring game ever with the Heat, a huge 56 points. He's a scoring machine, and his hard work and skill are certainly going to help us win this year.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>
<p>Yes, you have a great 3pt shooter but can your players rack up as many points as Jimmy, I don&rsquo;t think so!&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>
<p>L: Those are valid points, so we&rsquo;ll just have to wait and see. But they don&rsquo;t call Goldenstate the &lsquo;W squad&rsquo; for nothing mate. I know they're gonna win!&nbsp;</p>
<p>Y:&nbsp;In all honesty, it's difficult to predict where the basketball playoffs will go based on recent performances. We can, however, highlight the impact of players like Jimmy Butler, who tends to play his best game during the playoffs, his competitive side really coming out.&nbsp;</p>
<p>L: Actually I do see that, The playoffs bring the best out of him.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>
<p>Y: Relating all this to our Basketball sessions at Sportily, like the NBA players in the playoffs we always give our all, and encourage each other during every session, even when faced with challenges.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>
<p>Whenever someone in the session misses a shot, we make sure we all encourage that person that they don&rsquo;t have to give up as it's not about being the perfect player, but about being determined and always giving it your all.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>
<p>L: It's all about teamwork and communication, skills that are essential in all parts of life.</p>
<p>Y: So next time you&rsquo;re at a Sportily basketball session, listen out for encouragement because you gonna hear a lot of it!&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<title>London Marathon 2023: who are you running with?</title>

<description><![CDATA[<p><strong>With the annual London marathon taking place this Sunday 23rd April, we caught up with keen runner Jimmy, a friend of Sportily, to share his thoughts:</strong></p>
<p><em>"I love running! I love it on a level that occasionally borders on obsessive. But I wasn&rsquo;t always this way.</em></p>
<p><em>I used to be that friend we all have who publicly declares they like running, but if they're being honest, haven&rsquo;t been for a run in the last 12 months.</em><em>&nbsp;</em></p>
<p><em>So what changed? </em></p>
<p><em>Well, firstly, I decided to challenge my wife! Both Sarah (that&rsquo;s my wife) and I are reasonably competitive, so when she suggested we run a half marathon together, I jumped at the chance. </em><em>We signed up for the Hackney half marathon and began to train together. We did the same runs and ran the same routes, but when it came to race day, Sarah proudly announced that she was going to move further forward in the start pens as I &ldquo;would slow her down&rdquo;! </em></p>
<p><em>This got my competitiveness riled up, and I went out to prove her wrong. I finished in a highly respectable 1h59m, but before I bask in the glory of my new PB, I discovered that Sarah had finished a whole 15 mins ahead of me! </em><em>I</em><em>n a moment of self-preservation, I acknowledged her accomplishment, quickly adding that while she&rsquo;d done a half marathon, she couldn&rsquo;t do a full marathon (I&rsquo;d done one marathon, it had been a disaster, but I felt like I still had the upper ground!). </em></p>
<p><em>She called my bluff, and the next thing I knew, we were booked in to run the Berlin marathon. </em></p>
<p><em>Again we trained together (minus about ten days where I had some reasonably severe man flu), but just like groundhog day, when it came to completing the marathon, I crossed the line in 4h31m, this time to discover that she finished a full hour ahead of me! </em></p>
<p><em>This led to an endless rotation of marathons, slowly chipping away at my time until, 15 marathons later, I finally beat her time. </em></p>
<p><em>Along the way, I joined a local running club and started participating in local Parkruns. If you haven&rsquo;t come across Parkrun, they are a glowing example of what a true community can look like. Every Saturday, at 9 am, millions gather in parks worldwide to run, jog or walk 5k. Some are pro athletes (my local Parkrun often hosts Lucy Charles, the current women&rsquo;s no. 2 world Ironman champion); most are not.</em></p>
<p><em>While some fly by in subhuman times, there will always be people who walk, take the dog or hop around on crutches (okay, I&rsquo;ve only seen this once, but It makes the point!). </em><em>The events are open to everyone, young and old, male and female, fast and slow, celebrities (my claim to fame is narrowly beating Ronnie O&rsquo;Sullivan) and mere mortals like you and me. </em></p>
<p><em>But the incredible thing is the community that it creates. People cheer each other on, stay back to encourage slower runners, and pace each other to new personal bests. Some of my good friends are people I&rsquo;ve met at Parkrun. It&rsquo;s a community that effortlessly accepts you, encourages you and which you feel inexplicably part of.</em><em>&nbsp;</em></p>
<p><em>When I reflect on why I run and that fateful half marathon in 2017, I&rsquo;ve watched something change within me. I used to be driven by the desire to prove myself and to be the best. But what I&rsquo;ve noticed is that I now run for the community. I run to run with people, to cheer people on. I love to celebrate, offer advice and run physically and metaphorically alongside people.</em><em>"</em></p>

<title>KORFBALL, what?</title>

<p><span data-contrast="auto">Starting new things can be daunting for anyone, let alone children. For us, and for many, we don&rsquo;t want to fail, or try something new and feel silly if it doesn&rsquo;t work out. But sometimes, we find places and opportunities that allow us to by get past all the worry and anxiety of trialling new things.&nbsp;</span><span data-ccp-props="{">&nbsp;</span><span data-contrast="auto">Enter Korfball!</span><span data-ccp-props="{">&nbsp;</span></p>
<p><span data-contrast="auto">Korfball is gender-equal team sport that looks a little like a combination of netball &amp; basketball. It&rsquo;s the worlds only mixed-sex sport.&nbsp;</span><span data-contrast="none">By passing and quick movement, players must elude their personal opponents to shoot the ball through a korf &ndash; the Dutch word for basket.&nbsp;</span><span data-ccp-props="{">&nbsp;</span></p>

<p><span data-contrast="none">Children need safe spaces to &lsquo;try&rsquo;, to &lsquo;fail&rsquo;, and to &lsquo;learn&rsquo;, and Korfball provides that with its core value of teamwork that prioritises team participation over individual performances. Solo play is outlawed and so it gives us a wonderful opportunity to find value in every single player regardless of their height, jumping ability or speed.</span><span data-ccp-props="{">&nbsp;</span></p>
<p><span data-contrast="auto">We&rsquo;ve been running it over the last 3 weeks in a school with 28 first languages, where ease of access is paramount. Korfball ticks all those boxes &ndash; with its bright yellow visible hoops that are adjustable, allowing multiple ages and abilities to engage from day one. </span></p>
<p><span data-contrast="auto">We&rsquo;ve had such fun learning the sport, and failing as we go!</span></p>

<title>The big 5-day TRAC Adventure Residential</title>

<description><![CDATA[<h4>Back, after a COVID enforced break, join us this August for an epic 5-day Sportily camp at the Tom Roberts Adventure Centre (TRAC).</h4>
<p>We are a place for you to try different sports, make new friends and explore what life is all about. So at TRAC we&rsquo;ll #Giveitago with raft building, pedalo boats, archery, zip lining, sport, drama, art, wide games, fitness fun and more! We&rsquo;ll even have our own &lsquo;house band&rsquo;.&nbsp;</p>
<p>We believe that being more active, like the Christian faith, can change your life forever. So we&rsquo;ll hang out, chat, eat, explore the Christian faith, ask questions about Jesus and discover new things.</p>
<p>We&rsquo;re here to get you moving and show you that things are a lot more fun when we&rsquo;re kicking, diving, riding, rolling, running and jumping around together.</p>
