"Well, summer 2024 is finally here and as the smell of freshly cut grass and the lure of BBQ’s and ice cream fills us with a sense of happiness and joy, there's also something else round the corner which brings a sense of excitement and anticipation (not Euro 2024, but FYI #thisyearitsfinallycominghome!!) it is of course our Sportily summer 5-day residential at the TRAC centre just outside Newent. 

Our TRAC residential has been a longstanding flagship event of the summer holidays and is a time which over the years have provided young people from across the Sportily network with the chance to gather, connect, eat, and explore the Christian faith together.  This year will be no exception as we have a potential 70 young people signed up to share 5 days of raft building, climbing, archery, zip-wire, art, drama, BBQ, sport, amazing guest speakers, interactive workshops and much much more. 

The TRAC residential is more than just your average summer camp, the beautiful setting and sense of Christian hospitality allows TRAC to offer a safe space for young people to play sports, talk life, explore the Christian faith and make memories that will potentially be with them for life.  Over the last decade of running our residential, we've seen young people try new activities, make new friends, smash through doors they didn't even realise they could open, and for some, explore the Christian faith and experience Jesus for the first time in their lives. 

Our theme this year is "Ignite the Light," and we'll be unpacking and exploring how different areas of life offer the young people the chance to find light, bringing them peace, positive well-being, mental health, and joy, as well as exploring how the Christian faith is a light which can shine brighter than any other light and a light which the darkness can never put out. 

We always have a good mixture of Christian and non-Christian young people attend the residential and this year is no different. I always come away amazed by how God moves and works during the week in the mountain top moments and the smallest of whispers.

To celebrate Easter Sportily will be running loads of incredible sports holiday camps for children and young people across the network this April.

These camps will be packed full of games and activities that will get you moving and active in a variety of different and fun ways. 

We want to give you the opportunity to try new sports, play new games and talk life.

Some of our camps will also be exploring the Easter story in an interactive and fun way - a place to discover something new about the story and to ask questions about it: What did come first, the Easter Bunny, the Easter Egg or Jesus?

Easter Egg Hunt, Basketball, Coffee Van, Family Rounders
This part of the day will include a visit by the Bishop of Gloucester as we share with her how great North Glos is.

Over 40 Sportily sports camps are taking place across the county throughout the summer 2022 school holidays.

At the camps, children are able to try out and play a variety of different sports and activities which they may never have heard of before. They can make new friends and enjoy being part of a team all while having an amazing time.

Many of the camps taking place between 1 and 26 August are available as part of the Gloucestershire County Council Holiday, Activity and Food programme and will include lunch for all who attend. The Holiday Activity and Food (HAF) programme is funded by the Department of Education for who receive benefits-related free school meals.

One child who attended a Sportily activity exclaimed: "This was the best morning ever! I want to do it all again.”

“We’re really excited about this year’s summer programme,” said Richard Witham, Head of Sport and Faith for Sportily. “After an academic year where, supported by 55 volunteers, we delivered over a thousand sport and activity sessions, we’ve lined up the biggest summer of sports day camps ever. Our focus this summer is on ‘creating playful spaces all summer long’, we’re working hard to make sure that every child who comes to one of our activities this summer can have simply the best time checking out our motto:  "fluff it, duff it, score it, smash it, whatever you do, just give it a go.”

The camp days are open to children in school years 1 to 6. Most sessions run 10am – 2pm and can be booked via our website or the Holiday Activity and Food programme website.

At Sportily, one of our 7 spaces is CONNECT – we love connecting (and EATing too!). Coming up on 3 May, we have our first Big Man, Little Man residential camp for fathers and sons!

Jam packed with activities, food and fun this an adventure to look forward to. Big Man Little Man (BMLM) is a father and son bonding weekend residential camp. 

In a busy world, we invite you to carve out some time out to invest in this vital relationship, taking on challenges and learning new skills. Building relationships that last a lifetime.

We understand that the father son relationship can be complicated and are very happy to invite boys with a significant adult male be that uncle, grandfather, brother or godfather. We also run this camp on a ratio of 1 Adult to 1 Child, so that a father’s time is not split between multiple brothers. For son's aged 6-12 years old.

This camp has been running for over 10 years and will be led by Hendrik Espach and his team of diligent volunteers, partnering with Sportily.

Starting at 1pm on Friday 3rd June through to 4pm on Sunday 5th June.

We are a place for you to try different sports, make new friends and explore what life is all about. So at TRAC we’ll #Giveitago with raft building, pedalo boats, archery, zip lining, sport, drama, art, wide games, fitness fun and more! We’ll even have our own ‘house band’. 

We believe that being more active, like the Christian faith, can change your life forever. So we’ll hang out, chat, eat, explore the Christian faith, ask questions about Jesus and discover new things.

We’re here to get you moving and show you that things are a lot more fun when we’re kicking, diving, riding, rolling, running and jumping around together.
